Dear Coaches,

I have been at CrossFit for around 6 weeks now and I am curious about skills training. Things like the L sit, handstands, and handstand walk, double-unders, rope climbing, parallette work, and more. Are these things I should be practicing on my own? If so, when do you suggest I work on them, before a WOD, after a WOD, on rest days?

Thanks, ‘Want to be Gym-Nasty!’

Response from Dean-O-Mite:

Great question regarding the skills. They are consistently sprinkled into your programming, but that alone is not necessarily is going to cut it.

If what you are looking for is time to practice these specific movements and get feedback from a coach, then you may want to consider the “Gym-nasty Girls” class 9am on Saturday’s at Albany CrossFit. This class is made specifically to give athletes an opportunity to learn and work on gymnastic movements.

If you have skills you wish to work on specifically, try to throw it into a warm up before the WOD, or take some time post WOD and focus on them.  Of course, if you ever have questions you can always grab one of us coaches to help give you some feedback.
