With Strongman My Muscle Memory’s Better Than My Short Term
I love Strongman with Cat and Cean, but, I get intimidated by the yoke carry. I can't do Zerchers, and CAt doesn't want me to do that one unless specified. She said she'd make me do the normal back position. She was right. I had no trouble when it was empty, but, adding 50 lbs to the 140lb yoke felt difficult. Maybe the bar was lower than I like it, but, Cat helped me find a comfortable position on my back, and I was on my way. That was the warm-up. We added 90 lbs and that, but slightly higher, and it was very hard, but, I did it. When the medley started, I chose to use just 50lbs, and found it almost comfortable in round one, and too easy by the second one. I love muscle memory, and the quick turnaround time between rounds. Thankfully, we also have a long rest between them for some recovery. Between yoke runs, we had to push the prowler. Round one I had the upper handle, and round two the lower. I admit I removed the weight. Interestingly, I could really move quickly(for me) with it empty. I guess I sandbagged it, but, I'm protective of my back pre-travel. There was no turning the prowler around to keep the upper handle, or change handles. Cat threatened us with 50 burpees if we attempted to do so. It would have created chaos, which we didn't need while moving heavy sh*t quickly.
Practice makes these events easier with time, and I steadily become stronger. Perhaps I'll compete next year, but, meanwhile, I love the mental and physical challenge Strongman provides. It's a great little community within a great big one, and I'm grateful. Thanks, Cat for all your patience and encouragement today.
