The bear is always a fun workout. You get athletes cheering for one another, everyone pushes themselves, and it is so gratifying…when it's over! The bear is definitely just as much a mental workout as a physical one. So many athletes didn't think they could do it, but then pushed themselves and did it! It's so great when people come from "globo" gyms and are thoroughly impressed with how hard everyone works and the amazing community we have. Where else would you go on a Friday night and have people cheering eachother on like we do? You guys are awesome!
The form was great. It had to be. If your cleans and presses are not efficient it will come back to haunt you in later rounds. The nooners were great, Marine Mike took very little rest as he finished his fifth round with 125lbs. Chris, Eugene's younger brother did great as he finished with a very solid 95lbs, Eugene gave a solid effort at 135. Dan and Ed were great partners pushing one another set after set, Ed had amazing depth on his back squats.
Theresa, Laura, and Kelly were a fierce trio, round after round challenging one another with heavier weights, and every time they stepped up to the challenge. Yvonne was a silent assasin quietly rattling off round after round. Erin and Andrea really pushed themselves both taking record weight overhead for the first time. Andrea and Catherine took up the challenge for the first time and were spectacular. Both of these two are new but you wouldn't know by watching, their form is constantly improving, and their fitness is amazing!
The guys were tough as well, Greg, Adam, and Adam were tough. Greg was the first of the night to finish with 135. Albert went at 140 but couldn't quite finish it. Ernie was classic to watch as always, making the faces only Ernie can make! Buzz is making tremendous strides, he joined us with a bad back and has seen nothing but improvements in it since day one. Dave came in to just check the place out, but couldn't resist, he hit our high round of the day with 145lb, great job, you are welcome back any time!
Katie, Kia, and Dee finished off this great day. Dee and Kia were absolulely amazing. Kia is so strong, definitely keep on the look out for her, she has the potential to a complete firebreather. Katie we already know is an animal, being the first woman to lift 300, she was only one rep away from finishing the bear with 90lbs, she definitely has it in her.
