See you on the flip side

Lots of great handstands today.  We were really pleased with everyone's excitement and hard work in this challenging movement.  It's scary, nerve-racking, and hard to get your body to kick itself upside-down, but there were some tremendous improvements and great first time handstands.  You should all be proud of yourselves.  Overcoming fear, just another day at Albany CrossFit.

Look ma, no hands! Erin and Jen S. get inverted

So we hit hollow rocks, some fun tumbling, and solid handstands.  The goal is now to improve those handstands and eventually do them freestanding.  Freestanding handstands are a huge feat of strength, balance, and coordination.  Long term you can even shoot to do some freestanding HSPU.

It is definitely ok to have fears at ACF.  Part of what we are doing is challenging your body to do and try new things.  There is a reason you come here and not "globo" gym, we are not getting on machines, or stepping up and down or mindlessly using an elliptical, we are challenging ourselves on a daily basis.  If you are not scared once in a while you wouldn't be normal.

Kelly practicing her modeling Abby had a solid handstand, almost two minutes!

After the handstands we hit the treadmills for 4 quarter mile sprints.  The looks on the Court Club members faces were priceless as we strolled into the cardio room and busted out some serious running.  Who's with me on this?  If someone is walking on the treadmill, we should kick them off if we are sprinting…or worse the people reading magazines and books, come on!  There are people here actually trying to improve our fitness, are these people not bored out of their minds?

Buzz tumbling, lots of fun!

You may or may not know that Albany CrossFit is going to be the host of the Northeast Qualifier for the 2009 CrossFit Games.  This is a huge honor to us and is going to be a big event with some of the best athletes of the Northeast in attendance.  We will definitely be needing tons of help from all of our ACF athletes.  We will be looking for volunteers in all aspects as well as judges and timers.  It will be May 23rd and 24th, lots more information will be forthcoming.  If anyone is interested in competing let me know, we need to get you registered ASAP!

Mystery Blogger:
After a nice day off, I checked the the website Sunday only to find handstands as the WOD. I have always had trouble with handstands and contemplated staying home, but I decided to come in anyway. The rolling around in the beginning was nerve-racking, but I learned some new things and I will continue to practice those dreaded handstands…
