Written by Jason's original coach – Eugene Kyea:
Jason Murphy is an unbelievable athlete.
From the very first second of the very first day Jason walked into Albany Crossfit he was under no delusions as to what he was getting into. Days, weeks, months, of training, dieting, practice and perseverance were ahead of him, yet he was not to be shaken.
Jumping straight into a lifestyle change including crossfit, and a paleo based diet Jason began to change his life, a day at a time.
Jason works in a kitchen. He prepares all sorts of food all day for other people. He doesn't cheat his diet.
When Jason hits a WOD he doesn't stop. I mean he DOESN'T stop till the WOD is done. No breaks, no rest, they are for the weak and timid and people who have other places to be. From the second Jason steps into the gym until the time he leaves (usually after hitting numerous other things than other people) he is 100% committed to where he is and what he is doing.
As a coach and a friend I know if I am ever lacking in inspiration I only have remember Jason and how he pushes himself and then whatever it is I'm doing seems easy.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jason for allowing me to be a part of his journey. Thank You.
From his current coach KeHo:
I only started coaching Jason 3 monthes ago, and like many people before, I underestimated him. It didn't take long for me to realize he is one of the most driven athletes at ACF. I am so proud of him every time he beats a fellow CrossFitter in a MetCon, and they look at him like, "holy shit…your burpees are fast!" He takes on every monthly challenge like it is his job. This month he rocked the prowler challenge, and is a member of the Sub 3 min Club. Oh, and by the way, he put down 25 miles in a Relay for Life this month too.
Last week he said to me, "I'd like to compete in Sectionals next year, but I have no delusions…I probably won't qualify for Regionals for two more years." If you think he won't, go ahead…you tell him. It will just fuel him more, to prove you wrong, that's just how Jason Murphy rolls. When he is competing in Sectionals next year…you'll find me there, screaming my head off as his biggest fan. Congratulations Jason, you've earned it!
More from KeHo:
Today's skill session was a huge success! Everyone showed up with a big smile and a great attitude. We hit a "Catalyst Warmup", and fine tuned air squats. The group decided they wanted to work split jerks first. As we warmed it up and tweaked our form, Sam realized she was throwing up her 1 rep max with ease! We moved on to muscle-ups next…starting from the ground up, literally. Within 15 minutes, Hightower hit his first ever muscle-up. Kia was so close, she could smell it…her muscle-up will be here shortly. We wrapped up the session with some handstand push-up and snatch work. It was a great 2 hours, I hope to see more of you next time around.

Jason,
You so deserve this!!! You have come so far in just one year. I still remember Steve (my husband) inspired by your determination and never quit attitude. He enjoyed working out with you as do I.
You’ve not only become a great athlete and friend you’ve become a great asset to ACF.
Nice job Jason. Keep up the good work.
