68 Years Young!

Hitting her jump rope Kettlebell Swings

Who is the oldest athlete at Albany CrossFit?  That’s really a trick question because age is a state of mind…and Dona doesn’t look, act, or perform as if she is the “most mature” athlete hitting WODs.

Dona and I go back…nearly 10 years!  Can you believe it!?  In that time Dona has gone from caring about bicep curls making her arms look “cut” to how many pull-ups she can hit!  We all remember the infamous Vote for Dona campaign don’t we?  Dona has been around Albany CrossFit since it’s inception – check out our first post ever!

After a 10 year relationship many people would have wound up divorced…not me and Dona.  Whether she is correcting my grammar, cooking her infamous sesame noodles, or continually shocking all of the athletes and coaches at Albany CrossFit – Dona keeps our relationship fresh and full of surprises!

Take the fact that she was the only one of our women to compete in this year’s Master’s Division and she hit 3 PRs along the way!  She trained just as hard as any of our competitors getting ready for the Regionals.  Hitting WODs daily, working her skills (jump rope) and coming in on Saturday’s to practice her workouts.  Dona took the competition seriously and it paid off!  She is the 38th fittest women CrossFitter over 50!

After Regionals you would think Dona would have slowed down and taken some time off…guess again!  Dona went on an absolute tear, setting PR after PR on mile runs, burpees, and more!

Dona continues to be a force to be reckoned with.  She is 68 years young and only improving.  We are so proud of Dona.  We are happy to have her as part of our Albany CrossFit family and proud to recognize her as the July 2010 Member of the Month!

Dona often jokes that one day she will be 100  years old hitting WODs and I’ll be 70 years old coaching her along…nothing would make me happier!

Dona I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor. Watching you train for and compete at regionals was inspiring and jaw dropping (please remember that my marriage proposal still stands). Not only are you an inspiration to us all, but you are such a great person at heart. I, like everyone else, am so proud of you! Keep up all the hard work, because it certainly is paying off. And please make sure you are at Albany Crossfit hitting wods when you are 100, because you are an icon in our box, and you stand for what Albany Crossfit is about!

It’s 10:53 and am just sitting down for my daily dose of the ACF website. Boy, what a shock and a thrill to be honored like this (of course, I realize I’m very deserving)! Thanks to all of you fellow crossfitters for your encouragement and support. What a great place to spend so many hours of my life.

  3. Dona R. Wildove says:

By the way, I’m still 67? Let’s not rush it!

  4. Jason says:

Yes, yes Dona, we all know you are deserving! Now how many grammatical errors did I make?

  5. javy says:

I still can’t believe that you are 67, I would have said no older than 28……

  6. Jason says:

Javy…calm down! Both you and Dona have girlfriends!

  7. Dona R. Wildove says:

That was funny,Jason, but just remember, girlfriend or not,it should be “not Dona and me,” not, “me and Dona.” Let’s get some class here, please! Now it’s time to go to sleep, with my male friend, Denver.

  8. Jason says:

    Have a good night!

    Yeh, Javy!

  18. Jason says:

Dona – the correct spelling is Yeah!

  19. Dona R. Wildove says:

WRONG, again,Jason. I was saying “yeh” for “yes,” not, “yeh” for “yeah.” Get it?

  20. Jason says:

I think you are just making excuses…
