Thursday at Albany CrossFit tends to be the day everyone comes in a bit tired. Is it the hard week of WODs? Rough week at work? Either way, it's a nice night to come in for either a half-intensity workout or some active recovery and skill work.
All classes put in some great work. Beautiful depth on the ring dips and great lockout to support. The pullups were a bit of struggle on day 4 of our pullups challenge, lots of ripped hands and sore lats. Lunges were also fantastic, with super depth and tight form.
Lots and lots of ripped hands this week? Are we all taking care of our paws? This includes making sure they are taped properly before each workout, trimming and cutting dead skin, keeping them clean, filing down, and hitting them with some balm before bed. If you feel as if they are not getting an opportunity to recover make sure to take it easy on them.
Has everyone heard of the Fish! Philosophy?
On a visit to Seattle, Christensen observed how animated and happy the employees at Seattle's Pike Place Fish Market were in their work. They filled orders by flinging fish to each other, inciting laughter from the customers and compliments about their throwing/catching abilities, or commiseration if they missed. Employees would often invite customers to join the fun. The Pike Place employees gave their complete attention to each of their customers and ensured each had an enjoyable visit.
Christensen realized that not only were the workers making a routine errand fun for themselves and their customers, they also were selling tons of fish. He constructed the FISH! Philosophy from his observations of Pike Place employees, arriving at four key concepts:
- Play
- Make Their Day
- Be There (Often referred to as "Be Present")
- Choose Your Attitude
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude. --Denis Waitley
