Northeast Qualifier: How 10 Domains Are Not Enough

Every sport has its trends and CrossFit is no exception. From the obsession with women—Fran, Alison—to political debates—what language?—to contentious diatribes and impassioned pleas to the community—thanks bingo. All speak to the fabric of what makes CrossFit a sport and not only a collection of workouts. This definition is further reinforced by the competition of the Games, and now, the regional qualifiers.

It is important to remember just what the deciding criteria are within this athletic society. What separates the bad from the good, the good from the elite? The answer is superficially easy: the mastery of the ten domains of fitness. Every qualifier has measured as many components in as myriad—and sometimes arguable—ways possible. Yet another domain was also tested, and was clearly evident at the Northeast Qualifier. This domain, although impossible to quantify is immediately recognizable, and one that every dominant athlete possessed: control of emotionality.
