Got Paleo?

Posted on by viv

Ok, so by now you all know what a paleo diet entails but in case you don't here it is in a nutshell: only eat what you can kill/fish or pick off a tree/pull from the ground. If it comes in a packet/has a long shelf life then it's not paleo friendly. Actually it's not even consumer friendly!!

Do Eat: Meats and Fish, Vegetables, Fruits, Nuts, and Berries.

Do Not Eat: Grains, Beans, Potatoes, Dairy, Sugar.

The carbohydrates (unlimited fruits and veggies) in The Paleo Diet are of a low-glycemic index, meaning that they cause slow and limited rises in your blood sugar and insulin levels. Excessive insulin and blood sugar levels are known to promote a cluster of diseases called Syndrome X (obesity, hypertension, undesirable blood cholesterol and other blood lipid levels, Type 2 diabetes and gout). The high fiber, protein, and omega-3 fat content of The Paleo Diet will also help to prevent Syndrome X diseases.

Because of the unlimited amounts of fruits and veggies permitted on The Paleo Diet, your body will be slightly alkaline — meaning that diseases and disease symptoms of acid/base imbalance (osteoporosis, kidney stones, hypertension, stroke, asthma, insomnia, motion sickness, inner ear ringing, and exercise-induced asthma) will improve.

The high soluble-fiber content of The Paleo Diet will improve most diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and the high omega-3 fat content will improve most of the "itis" or inflammatory diseases.

On this diet you don't count calories or carbs, there's no weighing or measuring. You eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full.

A nutritionist & friend once told me that if she could take only one supplement out of all the supplements available on the market then she'd pick FISH OIL!  So just bloody well take it.  You know it's good for you especially since I know you all clicked on the Men's Health link posted 6/12/09 & read the article entitled "The Government's Big Fish Story". YOu should take .5g for every 10lbs of body weight. Another way to check your need for Fish Oil is to take a look at your elbows! Are they dry? If so you need Fish Oil

  1. This is a good post. Fish oil vitamins are very good for the body. You must be careful to see that the dosages are within the limits. An overdose can prove very costly. If taken rationally, fish oil vitamins are very good for the eyes and the health in general.
